ACTC to Host Children’s Book Author October 15-16
ASHLAND -- Popular children’s book author Martin Wach will present a series of workshops for students and adults in “Adventures in Writing and Storytelling,” Oct. 15 and 16 at Ashland Community & Technical College.
Wach spent time over a six-year period in the Rain Forest of Suriname, South America, working with the Maroon Indians. He and his wife, illustrator Delia Bowman Wach, turned these Rain Forest adventures into the “Teddy Bear Guardians of the Rain Forest” children’s book series, published by Headline Kids.
The Wachs have visited over 400 schools nationwide to share their share their unique experiences, and they have inspired many to attain goals of environmental protection, art and social consciousness.
At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, Wach will present a free workshop for aspiring authors in the community. The workshop is open to adults and high school and college students who are interested in the process of developing, writing and illustrating children’s books.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, he will present a session on his classroom techniques at the college’s annual Teaching and Learning Conference. Conference registration is online at: http://www.ashland.kctcs.edu/tlc.
Wach is touring 43 western Appalachian counties this fall through grants designed to encourage student interest in reading and writing and to increase awareness of environmental issues.
