W.Va. war memorial to feature 125-foot flagpole

September 03, 2010 @ 12:02 PM

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) — A Korean War Memorial under development in Marion County will feature a 125-foot tall flagpole that a designer says will be the tallest in West Virginia.

The Times West Virginian reports that designer C. Rick Hardman provided details of the flagpole project to the County Commission this week.

The memorial will be located at East Marion Park in Fairmont.

Hardman said the flagpole will have a 30-foot-by-50-foot flag and will be visible from Interstate 79 and beyond.

It will cost $80,000 to erect the flagpole and create an endowment to annually replace the flag. Hardman said funding will come from a community grant and donations.
