Lesage pair wins 'Today' honeymoon do-over
LESAGE -- A Lesage couple is winning a second honeymoon from the "Today" show.
Summer and Brent Geer are among 12 couples receiving a four-day trip to the Bahamas as part of the "I Do ... Over Bahamas Giveaway" from the NBC morning show.
The contest entry involved writing an essay about why a do-over honeymoon was needed.
"It was announced last week that it was the last day it was going on," Summer said Wednesday. "I ran home and got online and submitted our information, and they called (Tuesday)."
The Geers' honeymoon misfortunes in 2003 started with weather-related flight delays that caused them to arrive in Cancun a day late. Then Brent, who had a history of back problems, slipped a disc and spent the entire trip down for the count.
He had to visit the resort's nurse daily to get shots for the pain, and he mostly just stayed in the room.
"I had to get breakfast, lunch and dinner and bring it back to him," Summer Geer said. "He went to the pool with me once or twice, but not that often. I would go, but I felt bad so I wouldn't stay long.
"He wanted to go home early, but I said, 'Either be miserable here or be miserable at home.'"
Geer, who is a general manager for Geer Brothers Body Shop, ended up having his second back surgery after he got back from the trip, and he has since had another surgery. But he promised Summer that he'd make it up to her on their 10th anniversary, and this giveaway comes right on time. The couple -- who now have a 7-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter -- celebrate 10 years in July 2013.
In all likelihood, they'll add on some extra days, Summer said, and spend a full week at the Grand Lucayan Bahamas Resort Hotel.
"I told him, 'See, your back surgery paid off after all,' " she said.
