Barboursville police: Officers issue seven shoplifting citations

The following information was provided by reports filed with the Barboursville Police Department:

SHOPLIFTING: Police responded to seven reports of shoplifting between Dec. 5 and Tuesday. Three of those incidents were reported by employees at Sears in the Huntington Mall, and two incidents were reported by employees at Kohl's near the mall. Employees at Macy's and JCPenney, both at the mall, each reported one incident of shoplifting during that time frame.

On Dec. 7, employees at Sears reported three people concealed an undetermined amount of merchandise in shopping bags and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. Officers responded to the scene, and they issued a citation to the suspects: A 39-year-old man from Danville, W.Va., a 31-year-old woman, of Julian, W.Va., and a 22-year-old woman, also of Julian, W.Va.

On Dec. 8, store employees reported a 41-year-old Louisa, Ky., woman entered the store with two other people, and she concealed a pair of men's boots worth $105 before attempting to leave the store without paying for them. Police issued a citation to the woman, and the two other people were released without incident.

On Dec. 9, a 24-year-old Lucasville, Ohio, man was issued a citation by police after employees at the store reported he concealed $359.97 in tools in his jacket and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items.

At Kohl's along Mall Road, employees reported on Dec. 5 that a woman concealed $177.99 in apparel and electronics in a shopping bag and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. Officers performed a background check on the 48-year-old Hurricane woman, who had a prior shoplifting conviction, and officers issued her a citation for shoplifting, second offense.

On Dec. 11, employees at the store reported two women entered the store and concealed a total of $262 in apparel and accessories in their purses before attempting to leave the store without paying for the items. The suspects, an 18-year-old woman, from Thurman, Ohio, and an 18-year-old woman of Columbus, Ohio, each were issued a citation and released from custody.

At JCPenney at the mall, employees reported on Dec. 8 that a 24-year-old Barboursville woman concealed $117 in merchandise while in a fitting room at the store before attempting to leave the store without paying for the items. Officers issued a citation to the woman.

Finally, officers issued a citation to a 19-year-old Huntington woman after employees reported she concealed $231.75 in clutch purses in a shopping bag before attempting to leave the store without paying for them.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: A 53-year-old Winfield man reported someone keyed his vehicle while it was parked at a business along Mall Road last Friday. The man said the vehicle sustained $600 in damage.
