Police find dogs locked in W.Va. storage unit

Aug. 11, 2014 @ 01:33 PM

MILTON, W.Va. (AP) — Police in Cabell County say a man found living in a storage unit allegedly kept nine dogs locked in another unit without food or water.

Milton police Cpl. Dean Bishop says 44-year-old Tommy Lee of South Charleston was charged Sunday with cruelty to animals, felony destruction of property, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

A criminal complaint says officers found the animals while responding to a disturbance at the storage facility on Thursday. The animals have been placed under a veterinarian’s care.

The complaint says Lee also allegedly caused damage to a car wash when he drove a rental truck that was too tall for the building.

Media outlets report Lee is being held at the Western Regional Jail. Jail records didn’t indicate whether he has an attorney.
