Students gain food service experience

HUNTINGTON -- Students at both Huntington and Cabell Midland high schools who participate in the ProStart food industry program can graduate with a certificate through the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and have a foundation for a career in the restaurant industry.

And teachers at each school make sure their students are ready when that time comes. Stephen Martin, who teaches at Cabell Midland, is a former restaurant owner who has his own catering business. Marilyn Cline, who teaches at Huntington High, makes sure her students understand how to run a food service business.

"This class gives students the experience needed to be in management in the restaurant industry," Cline said, noting the curriculum is industry-driven through the National Restaurant Association.
