Man arrested in disturbance at local church
The following information was provided by reports filed with the Barboursville Police Department:
DISORDERLY CONDUCT: A 49-year-old Argilite, Ky., man was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct last weekend.
A member of Fellowship Baptist Church in the 3600 block of U.S. 60 reported a man came to the church Sunday morning, asking for food. The report stated when someone from the church provided the man with doughnuts, he became angry and "asked for cream-filled doughnuts and coffee." The complaint told police the man then became upset and started a disturbance in the church.
BURGLARY: A 36-year-old man reported someone entered his residence in the 600 block of Huddleston Avenue between Dec. 21 and 27, while he was away for the holidays, and took $750 in electronics. The man told police there were other items of value in his apartment that were not disturbed.
SHOPLIFTING: Officers responded to three shoplifting reports between Dec. 24 and Sunday.
The first incident was reported by employees at Elder-Beerman at the Huntington Mall on Dec. 24, when they told police two women entered the store, removed the tags from four handbags, worth a total of $1,242.32, and placed the items in a bag. The women left the store without paying for the items and left in a vehicle, of which witnesses were able to provide police a description.
The employees noted the incident was witnessed by an off-duty police officer, who alerted employees to the incident.
The second incident took place the same day at Sears in the mall. Employees reported a 33-year-old Ashland, Ky., man and a 56-year-old Raceland, Ky., man entered the store selected $585.97 in merchandise including apparel, electronics and tools, and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. Officers issued each man a citation for shoplifting, and they were released from custody.
The third incident was reported by employees at Kohl's near the mall, where employees told police on Sunday a 74-year-old Huntington woman attempted to leave the store without paying for $349.10 in apparel. Officers issued the woman a citation, and she was released from custody.
