State funds to help fix theater roof

HUNTINGTON -- A Huntington landmark is receiving a funding boost from Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and the West Virginia Legislature which could clear the way for more improvements.
Tomblin, the House of Delegates and the state Senate are contributing $100,000 each to help the Keith-Albee Foundation replace the roof on the historic theater in the 900 block of 4th Avenue. Bids for the replacement project will be opened Feb. 1.
"This is a big deal for us, because it will preserve the historical integrity of the building and will allow us to begin looking at upgrades on the inside that we've wanted to do for a long time," said David Tyson, who is co-president of the Keith-Albee Foundation along with state Sen. Bob Plymale, D-Wayne. "Senator Plymale and I met with Gov. Tomblin about three months ago, and he was very receptive to our request. We're very appreciative to him, House Speaker (Rick) Thompson and Senate President (Jeff) Kessler."
