Museum displays heroes of African-American Sports
ASHLAND -- Several displays, including one about African-American Sports Heroes, will be on display in February at the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center in Ashland.
John Carpenter, a Firebrick, Ky., native with one of the country's largest private memorabilia collections, will bring items from Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and others. Items from Clinton Thomas, a Greenup County, Ky., native who played in the first African-American World Series, also will be displayed, according to Christine Arthur, the museum's office manager.
Carpenter will be on hand at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 to talk about the collection.
Other exhibits for February include: Votes for Women: From Seneca Falls to the 19th Amendment, The Victorian Era: The Queen's Way and The Civil War Sesquicentennial.
