Lincoln seeking bond for schools

February 02, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HAMLIN -- Lincoln County education officials are hoping not to suffer the same fate as Wayne County when a $24 million bond is decided by voters Saturday, Feb. 23.

The bond would secure $17 million from the West Virginia School Building Authority to provide two new schools as well as renovations and additions at three others.

Voters in neighboring Wayne County rejected a $33 million bond proposal in December that would have secured $20 million from the SBA to build two new schools and provide renovations at four others.

If Lincoln County voters approved a $24 million bond on Feb. 23, it will trigger a $17 million grant from the West Virginia School Building Authority to help pay for new schools to replace two aging elementaries -- Duval and Midway.
