Importance of health screenings discussed
HUNTINGTON -- Cabell Huntington Hospital launched a new health education series Monday night called "Talk with a Doc."
The series is meant to connect doctors and local residents on a variety of issues. Monday's topic was the importance of health screenings.
During the free public event, physicians and healthcare professionals outlined the appropriate age for screenings and answered common questions about the effectiveness and benefits of screenings.
Those who participated Monday included:
Joy Pelfrey, a registered nurse and director of Senior Services Department at Cabell Huntington Hospital, spoke on Medicare preventative screenings; Dr. Linda Savory with Cabell Huntington Hospital's Women's and Family Medical Center spoke about heart disease; Dr. Gerard Oakley, gynecologic oncologist and daVinci robotic surgeon at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, spoke about cervical cancer; Dr. James Jensen, urologic oncologist and daVinci robotic surgeon with the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, spoke on prostate cancer; Dr. Jason Akers, a radiologist with Radiology Inc., spoke about 3-D mammography; and Dr. Jonathan Kiev, a thoracic and vascular surgeon at Cabell Huntington Hospital, talked about vascular screenings.
