Marshall grad selected for organ competition

Yuri McCoy, a 28-year-old Marshall University graduate originally from Huntington, has been selected to compete this summer in Longwood Gardens' inaugural International Organ Competition. He's among 10 performers from around the world to compete on the Longwood Organ for a $40,000 first prize. Preliminary and final rounds are June 18-22 in Longwood Gardens, Pa.

McCoy is a first-year graduate student at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he studies with Kenneth Cowan. He is director of music at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Angleton, Texas. He also has a master's in piano performance from the University of Hawaii.

He is the son of Walter Wilkes and Jackie McCoy of Huntington.
