Annual car show takes over arena

Mar. 02, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The air was cool but the engines were hot inside the Big Sandy Superstore Arena on Friday during the first night of the 36th Annual World of Wheels.

The event boasts fun for guests of all ages, regardless of whether they are old enough to actually operate one of the more than 700 vehicles on display this weekend.

There are kids' attractions that include the annual model car contest and a coloring contest, in which winners stand to receive either a $50 VISA gift card or a $100 grand prize.

A No. 13 Geico race car, which is a NASCAR Sprint Series Car driven by Casey Mears for German Racing, is on display and is accompanied by the Geico gecko mascot.

On Sunday afternoon, World of Wheels will dole out more than $5,000 in cash and prizes awarded for the best in rods, antiques, customs, 4x4s, motorcycles, trucks and more.

The show will continue from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 2, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3.

Admission is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children younger than 12. Children younger than 3 get in for free.
