Food bank issues statement following arrest of former director
The Huntington Area Food Bank has issued a statement following the arrest of its former director.
Leigh Anne Zappin, 56, was arrested Friday on charges that she embezzled more than $23,000 from the Huntington Area Food Bank following an investigation by the West Virginia State Police. She faces a single count of embezzlement and eight counts each of forgery and uttering.
The statement from the food bank reads, “The Huntington Area Food Bank's Board of directors and employees have cooperated fully in this investigation and will continue to assist prosecutors as this case moves to through the court system. Throughout this unfortunate time, The Food Bank has and will continue to serve its member agencies and the nearly 100,000 people who need food each month in the Tri-State area. Although this is a difficult time for our organization, the need of those we serve remains unchanged.”
