Dead pit bull pups found dumped outside Bluefield
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the dumping of more than 10 dead pit bull puppies outside Bluefield.
Mercer County Animal Control Officer Tracy Monninger tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that a property owner called 911 on Sunday because he smelled an odor. She says he saw bags being thrown from a vehicle two days earlier.
Another animal control officer went to the scene and reported the puppies were decomposing.
Monninger says up to 13 puppies may have been dumped but the decomposition made it difficult to determine the number.
Mercer County prosecutor Scott Ash says a necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of the puppies’ deaths.
Ash says assistant prosecutor John McGinnis is working with local investigators on the case.
