Arson arrest in Wednesday fire
HUNTINGTON — A Huntington man has been charged with setting a fire that destroyed an abandoned house Wednesday night.
Shawn Patrick King, 35, was charged with felony first-degree arson. He was incarcerated at 1 a.m. Thursday without bond pending arraignment, according to booking records at the Western Regional Jail.
Witnesses noticed the fire at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 2700 block of 9th Avenue. It was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on scene.
Authorities quickly deemed the fire suspicious. Then a reported confession to another man led to King’s arrest, after that witness provided his information to police, according to an incident report filed at the Huntington Police Department.
The flames destroyed what authorities described to be an abandoned house. It also melted siding of a neighboring house and damaged brush and trees nearby.
Huntington Deputy Fire Chief J.S. Earl estimated the home had been abandoned for at least five years. He was completely gutted to its wooden bones, which was a big reason why it quickly grew so large.
