Body found in river identified
HUNTINGTON — A man's body discovered floating in the Ohio River Tuesday afternoon was identified by Huntington Police Wednesday.
Robert Allen McDowell, 40, of Huntington, was listed as the victim in the police report related to the discovery of the body at 2:48 p.m. Tuesday in the Ohio River, about a quarter-mile west of the 17th Street West Bridge.
The body was discovered beneath a barge by workers from Superior Marine, and the body had been taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner's Office following the extraction Tuesday evening.
Police had not determined a cause of death Tuesday evening, but investigators said the body had been in the river for at least two days.
The body recovery led to some traffic slowdowns along the bridge, and at least one minor accident.
