Friends of newlywed couple share in marital bliss, prank
A home at the corner of Avondale Road and North Terrace was decorated Monday, June 18, 2012, to surprise the newlyweds who live there.

HUNTINGTON -- Following their dream wedding in Maui on May 5 and a two-week honeymoon, Phillip and Mandy Golden were ready to return to their dream home at the intersection of Avondale Road and North Court in Huntington.
The home, which Phillip Golden has lived in for 10 years and Mandy has lived in for a little more than a month, was just as they left it when they returned, which was a little bit of a surprise to the new Mrs. Golden.
"I thought his friends would have trashed the house before we got home, but it wasn't," she said. "I know he's been the main culprit in some other, um, interesting things with his friends."
Those things, to name a few, include filling friends' vehicles with everything from packing peanuts and shredded paper to balloons. He also might have mentioned incidents involving plastic wrap and Christmas lights, all of which occurred upon his friends' return from their own honeymoons.
So, it didn't really come as a shock to Phillip Golden Monday afternoon when he first found his car had been given the newlywed treatment from his friends, decked out in supportive messages, plastic wrap and balloons.
What he didn't count on was just how enthusiastic his friends would be about making sure he was given the proper welcome in to wedded bliss.
Of course, the only way they could think to return the favor was to decorate his newlywed palace using his own, elaborate taste in accessories, with the addition of tires, a made-from-scratch doghouse for him and even a commercial roof vent.
A plastic-wrapped porch was filled to the brim with balloons and shredded paper, while the entire house also was plastic-wrapped.
"I guess they didn't forget about me after all," he said Monday upon arriving home from his job at Cabell Huntington Hospital. "I kind of take it as a sign of affection. We definitely had it coming, and it looks like we're going to have a little bit of extra trash this week. We'll have to see what we can do about the tires."
The Goldens met while working together at the hospital, where Phillip, a Wayne County native, is a CT technician and Mandy, who grew up in Parkersburg, is a radiology therapist.
