NPS plans burn at Sandstone Visitor Center
SANDSTONE, W.Va. (AP) — The New River Gorge National River’s Sandstone Visitor Center will be closed Wednesday morning while the National Park Service conducts a prescribed burn.
The park service says the burn is scheduled for around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The visitor center will reopen after the burn is completed.
A grassy section of about 5 acres on a hillside in front of the visitor center will be burned.
The goal is to help discourage tree growth in the field areas and to encourage the growth of native grasses. It also will maintain native plants.
