Special school board meeting called for tonight

May 27, 2009 @ 10:36 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The Cabell County Board of Education has called a special meeting for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, to discuss and possibly act on the vacant seat on the board.

Superintendent William Smith also confirmed that the other item on the agenda, discussion of property acquisition, does concern Prestera Center and University Heights.

The latter has been in negotiotations for at least the past few months. The school board voted in late January to acquire University Heights by eminent domain. Smith has said that the negotiations are to avoid the legal battle associated with eminent domain.

The school board has reportedly offered a smaller piece of property it owns in Huntington so Prestera can still consolidate its services, as intended when the mental health and addictions services provider bought the land from Marshall University in November.
