Boyd County High School cheerleaders win awards

Jun. 21, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

CANNONSBURG, Ky. -- The Boyd County High School Varsity Cheerleaders received several awards at a Universal Cheerleaders Association summer camp last week in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

In additional to receiving the Game Day Champions 2013 and Superior Overall trophies, the Boyd County squad received a new award called the Traditions Award.

When the cheerleaders finish practice, the girls say something positive that happened that day and close with a prayer. The director of the camp liked the idea so much, they shared it with the other squads and created an award for it called the Traditions Award. It will continue to be handed out at all Universal Cheerleaders Association summer camps, according to a news release.

"This made our team become a family," said Mikayla Woods, a high school senior. "We bonded as sisters with memories for a lifetime."

Team members Caitlyn Carroll, Hannah Ferguson, Jamie Helton, Tori Johnson, Erin Meade, Macey Meek, Emily Salisbury, Allie Stacy and Woods received the St. Jude Community Service Award at the camp, according to the release.

Other members of the varsity cheerleaders include Kalee Branham, Ciera Caudill, Lacie Daniels, Alexis Davis, Belle Gee, Emily Grubb, Olivia Hays, Peyton Phillips and Tiffany Smallridge.
