Redistricting concerns voiced

HUNTINGTON -- Dozens of citizens and community leaders filed out of the sunshine and into a courtroom Saturday at the Cabell County Courthouse for a public discussion on redistricting hosted by the state Senate Redistricting Task Force.
The meeting was the ninth in a series of 12 public informational meetings throughout the state for members of the public to voice their thoughts and anxieties about upcoming redistricting sessions at the state capitol, tentatively scheduled for early or mid-August.
Sen. John Unger, D-Berkley, is the chairman of the task force, and he said task force members are at the meetings to hear the biggest concerns or ideas when it comes to district lines.
"There are no maps here for us to use to sell you an idea or to convince you of anything, and there are no secret maps we're hiding," Unger said. "We want to be sure this whole process is as open and transparent as possible."
