WVU-P ready to honor Veterans Day

Nov. 03, 2012 @ 09:20 AM

PARKERSBURG -- West Virginia University at Parkersburg will celebrate Veterans Day with a week of honor, recognition and entertainment at the college beginning Monday.

On Monday, community organizations, students, faculty and staff will gather to offer recognition and information from 11 a.m.-noon in the College Activities Center.

During this event and throughout the week, the West Virginia University Veterans Corps will sell American flags to honor specific individuals who are currently serving or have served in the armed forces. The flags will be displayed on the front lawn of WVU-P on Monday and again on Saturday.

On Wednesday, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., the Veterans Day celebration will continue as part of the Wellness Fair and the kick-off of the college’s anti-bullying campaign. The 249th Army Band will perform in the College Activities Center from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.

All of the activities are free and open to the public.
On Nov. 10, the college will host a dinner and USO variety show. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased in the business office on campus or by calling 304-424-8223.
“Our college has a long history of serving the veteran community,” said Anthony Underwood, WVU-P vice president of student services. “They make up a significant part of our student population, and we’re proud to serve them as they have served us.”
All proceeds from the flags and USO dinner and show benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. For more information, contact Kurt Klettner at 304-424-8388.
