Gunshots fired at police; man arrested
POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. -- A man has been arrested and charged with firing multiple gunshots toward police during a training exercise late Thursday evening in Mason County.
Richard Allen Thomas, 58, was incarcerated at 2:30 a.m. Friday in the Western Regional Jail. Authorities in Mason County charged him with 90 counts of felony wanton endangerment.
Broadcast reports indicate the arrest followed reports of a shooting on Jericho Road in Point Pleasant, W.Va. Some police officers were shooting at a firing range when a neighbor who lives nearby fired multiple shots toward the officers, according to reports from the Sheriff's Office to the broadcast outlets. No injures were reported.
Some gunshots damaged the deputies' cruisers, broadcast reports state.
Thomas' bond was set at $500,000.
