18-year-old arrested in stabbing incident

WESTWOOD, Ky. -- A 17-year-old stabbed during a fight in the 2100 block of Main Street of Westwood was transported to an Ashland hospital before being transferred to Cabell Huntington Hospital, according to a news release from the Boyd County Sheriff's Department.

Alec E. Burress, 18, of Newsome Street, Ashland, was charged with first-degree assault and lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center.

The two teenagers got into a fight about 9:45 p.m. Monday. Burress is charged with using a pocket knife to stab the 17-year-old five times, once in the chest, puncturing his lungs. The stabbing victim was transported to King's Daughters Medical Center before being transferred, according to the release.

The name and condition of the juvenile wasn't released.

The case will be forwarded to a Boyd County grand jury on Thursday, according to Boyd County Sheriff Terry Keelin.
