Judges dismiss case against WVa mayor, council
MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. — A three-judge panel has dismissed an attempt to remove Mount Hope’s mayor and city council from office.
Unsuccessful mayoral candidate George F. Smith Jr. had alleged that Mayor Michael Martin and the council illegally approved a bonus for city employees in December. Smith also said the mayor and council should not have held an executive session during the same meeting on a separate issue.
The state Supreme Court appointed a three-judge panel to hear Smith’s complaints and the panel held a hearing in March.
Last Friday, the panel dismissed Smith’s petition.
