Highlands Museum to host Carpenter's football memorabilia collection
ASHLAND — Football season, or at least football fever, starts Tuesday as the Highlands Museum & Discovery Center, 1620 Winchester Ave., hosts a 7 p.m. Tailgating Preview Party Tuesday for John Carpenter’s Hall of Champions, an exhibit of 130 items from Carpenter’s football collection ranging from the 1880s and up.
The exhibit will feature items such as the 1927 football kicked by the legendary Jim Thorpe, the autographed helmet of former Green Bay Packer Brett Farve, and the autographed football of O.J. Simpson as well as items from Archie Griffith, Joe Paterno, Bo Jackson and many others.
The party costs $10 and includes food from Mary’s Kitchen Catering, entertainment from the Greenup County High School Cheerleaders and Pep Band, and admission to the exhibit.
All proceeds benefit Highlands’ educational programming. Call 606-329-8888, e-mail at jennifer@highlandsmuseum.com, or visit www.highlandsmuseum.com.
