Cabell County Senior Picnic set for Friday
HUNTINGTON -- Local seniors will have an opportunity to get outside, meet some old friends and make some new ones on Friday, Sept. 20, as the Cabell County Community Service Organization (CCCSO) hosts its annual Cabell County Senior Picnic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ritter Park.
It will take place under tents near the fountain area of the park, and feature food, music by Jim Davis of Clear Channel Communications, games and prizes.
Lunch will be served at noon, and transportation can be obtained by calling 304-529-4952 by Thursday, said Teresa Atkins, assistant director of CCCSO.
"It's a great way to get seniors out together to have some enjoyment in this picnic venue," said Director Chuck Ricks, for whom this picnic will be a first. "This is a way to let them know we appreciate them and what they're doing. ... Seniors sometimes stay at home a lot and don't get out as much as other people. They can get out, have fun, listen to music and see friends."
September is a beautiful time of year, he said. As of Tuesday, there was a chance of rain on Friday, but the picnic is planned under tents, so "It's going to take more than a little rain to cancel this event," he said.
