Participants sought for homecoming parade
HUNTINGTON -- The Marshall University Student Government Association is accepting applications for organizations, groups and bands that want to participate in the homecoming parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.
Applications are available online at www.marshall.edu/SGA. The deadline is Friday, Sept. 27. This year's theme is Mardi Gras.
For Marshall students who choose to participate, there are cash prizes for the top three student organization floats, ranging from $1,000 to $500.
There also will be a high school band competition, which will include cash prizes ranging from $1,750 to $750.
Hospice to volunteer orientation in Ironton
IRONTON -- Community Hospice will host volunteer orientation at its Ironton office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 8-10. The Ironton office is located at 2029 S. Third St.
Volunteers perform a variety of duties, including caregivers' time away, nursing home visitation, volunteer spiritual care, home alone support, veteran-to-veteran visits and more. All volunteers must complete the required training to be certified.
Volunteers can seek positions for a few hours a week or just occasionally.
