Mother, daughter die in vehicle crash
HAMLIN, W.Va. -- Friends and family are preparing to remember the lives of a mother and daughter after the pair died in a vehicle accident this week.
A passing trucker saw their crashed vehicle about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and called Lincoln County 911.
West Virginia State Police then found it over a hillside near the Lincoln-Putnam county line.
The deceased were identified as Becky May, 37, and MacKenzie Haynes, 9, both of Hamlin, said State Police Sgt. Brian Guthrie.
Investigators believe their vehicle drove off the left side of the road sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. It went over an embankment, hit a tree and turned over in a creek, Guthrie said.
The victims were found inside.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Liberty United Baptist Church in Branchland. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the same location.
