Setting highlights Colt Ford concert at Harris Riverfront Park
HUNTINGTON -- A cool, dry evening at Harris Riverfront Park highlighted a concert by Colt Ford, a popular country music artist known to include rap in his songs.
The show, which featured an opening act by Matt Stillwell, drew more than 300 people. There was even a few boats that anchored near the docked stage, and a kayaker also stopped to hear some of the tunes.
Hamlin resident Dottie Holley said it couldn't get much better -- great weather and good "rap country."
Ford, whose real name is Jason Farris Brown, has released two albums on his own Average Joe's label and has charted three singles on the Hot Country Songs charts.
Upcoming events at Harris Riverfront Park include Dark Star Orchestra performing Grateful Dead's music is Tuesday night, Aug. 3. Tickets are $22 in advance and $25 the day of the show.
Next weekend, the final St. Mary's Starlight Cinema will feature Wizard of Oz on Friday, Aug. 6, and Back to the Future on Saturday, Aug. 7. Movies start at dusk.
Concessions are available since no coolers, outside food, or beverages are permitted. St. Mary's Starlight Cinema is an alcohol-free event. No pets are permitted in the park.
Admission is free.
Then, the annual Huntington Rib & Music Festival begins Thursday, Aug. 12, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 15. The opening night show features Travis Tritt.
