Marshall to host annual marching band festival
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards Stadium will host more than two dozen high school marching bands on Saturday, Oct. 12, during the annual Tri-State Marching Band Festival.
Gates open early, with performances starting at 11 a.m. The schedule includes 26 bands from West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky, and they'll compete in four classes depending on the size of the band.
Awards will be given out for each of the four classes, including first, second, third; color guard; drum major, percussion; and overall awards for majorettes, feature twirlers and dance teams.
The highest-scoring bands, regardless of class, also will receive awards for music performance, marching performance and general effects. There also will be a grand champion, first- and second-runner up.
Admission is $5, and concessions will be available during the event.
The performance schedule starts at 11 a.m. and continues through 8 p.m. The Marching University Marching Thunder will perform an exhibition while scores are being tabulated, with awards announcements starting at about 8:15 p.m.
