BASH: The winter classical concert season of Huntington Symphony Orchestra, directed by Kimo Furumoto, begins with "A Birthday Bash" celebrating Benjamin Britten's 100th anniversary and Wagner Bicentennial at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Keith Albee Performing Arts Center. Better known as "Aunt Phyllis" to my brother-in-law, Mike Grieco, and sister, Jeannie, I met her when I spoke for the women's group at First Wesleyan Church several years ago. I have to say she is a keeper.

BANQUET: Ohio Valley Chapter of West Virginia Ducks Unlimited hosts its annual fundraising banquet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at YMCA Kennedy Center. HAUNTED: Ironton Lions Club continues its haunted tunnel from 7 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October - Oct. 11-12, 18-19, 25-26 - near U.S. 52 and State Route 93 intersection, across from Ironton Hills Shopping Center. BOY: Brian and Lacie Casto of Huntington's New Baptist Church became parents of a new bundle of boy Sept. 18. Jase Lincoln Casto weighed 10 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 22 inches long.
GET-WELL: Prayers, thoughts and get-well wishes are being sent to Jean Spurlock, whom I learned has a broken back. A long-time family friend, here's hoping she has a smooth and quick recovery and will soon be back on her feet doing what she loves the best.
MISSED: I must be getting old. I missed an important date - Oct. 3. That was my 41-year anniversary with The Herald-Dispatch with all but seven inside the walls of that building and the last seven working from home. Thanks to the many friends I've met and those I continue to hear from.
SYMPATHY: Joyce N. Allie, member of the former Paw Taw Square Dance Club, passed away Sept. 16 at age 85. The Proctorville, Ohio, resident and her husband, Albert, were married 63 years. The mother of one surviving son was retired from the former C&P Telephone Co. May family and friends find comfort in knowing prayers and thoughts continue to be with them during this sorrowful time.
