W.Va. battalion heading to Afghanistan
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — About 200 soldiers based in Parkersburg and Point Pleasant are being deployed to Afghanistan.
Lt. Col. Michael O. Cadle with the West Virginia National Guard said the 1092nd Engineer Battalion will ship out in the spring for a one-year deployment.
The battalion will help to build roads and other infrastructure. Cadle said it also will serve as command and control for a group of engineer battalions from six states.
The West Virginia battalion was last deployed in 2003, when the unit spent a year in Iraq.
