W.Va. tourism promotes events for 2010
CHARLESTON— The West Virginia Division of Tourism listed the following events that are occurring around the state in January:
5th Annual Eagle Survey: Saturday, Jan. 9, Pipestem Resort State Park, Pipestem. Volunteers gather from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to survey the wintering eagles in southern West Virginia. Contact 304-466-1800, ext. 344, or visit www.pipestemresort.com.
Run to Read Half Marathon: Saturday, Jan 9, Prickett’s Fort State Park, Fairmont. A half marathon race to benefit Literacy Volunteers will take place on the Marion County Rail Trail starting at noon at Prickett’s Fort State Park. Registration will take place in the Visitor Center. The Wheeling Jamboree: Saturday, Jan. 9, Victoria Theatre, Wheeling. Performances from Sydney Hutchko and Kim Butler and Bridges. Artists’ line-ups are subject to change. The event also will include the “Starboyz” motorcycle stunt team and "Porkchop" the motorsports’ clown. An Evening with Beto Perez: Monday, Jan. 11, Big Sandy Superstore Arena, Huntington. An evening with Beto Perez, the creator of Zumba, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in downtown Huntington. “Putting on the Dog”: Friday, Jan. 15, Berkeley Springs.The theme of this multi-media evebt is about the importance of pets in our lives and how each artist interprets the dogs that touch our hearts. 22nd Annual Tri-State Original Toughman Contest: Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15 and 16, Big Sandy Superstore Arena, Huntington. Lore and Tracking: Friday through Sunday, Jan. 15 to 17, Twin Falls Resort State Park, Mullens. The weekend focuses on learning how our ancestors tracked the animals that provided food and clothing in the 18th century. Attendees participate in track walks and then have the opportunity to put these new skills into use.
