St. Joe students nominated for U.S. Service Academies

January 12, 2010 @ 01:34 PM

HUNTINGTON — Two St. Joseph High School students have been nominated by U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall for the United States Service Academies.

Suzzane P. Blair was nominated for the Air Force Academy, while Lance A. West was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the Naval Academy.

“Some of the best, brightest and most accomplished West Virginians in the state apply to the service academies each year, and this year was no different,” Rahall said. “I have nominated excellent candidates who, if ultimately receive an appointment, will succeed both at their academy and in their service to our country.”

Service academy students major in a variety of subjects, from the sciences to the humanities.

When they graduate, they are given an officer’s commission. Students who are selected for appointment to a U.S. Service Academy would enter that academy at the start of the 2010-2011 academic year.
