Aug. 01, 2013 @ 07:31 AM

HILLSBORO, W.Va. — The commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Droop Mountain is continuing in West Virginia.

The Division of Natural Resources is holding a series of hikes at Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park in Pocahontas County to mark the Civil War battle that occurred there November 6, 1863.

Officials say the first two hikes took place in June and July, but there are two others scheduled for Aug. 31 and Nov. 5.

The three-mile August hike is the 8th West Virginia Mounted Infantry Memorial Hike. A reenactment of the battle also is scheduled to take place Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

In November, officials have scheduled an all-night, 30-mile hike that starts near Lewisburg and concludes at Droop Mountain
