BARBOURSVILLE -- AAA recognized local police departments Friday for their safety efforts and enforcement activities.

Award levels were based upon the volume of those efforts and activities. Platinum winners went above and beyond, said AAA spokeswoman Bevi Powell.

Platinum awards were given to the Ceredo, Huntington and Point Pleasant police departments, along with the West Virginia State Police troopers in Huntington.

Gold-level winners were Barboursville, Milton and Hurricane police departments, along with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

The Cabell County Sheriff's Office received the group's silver-level award. The Kenova Police Department received bronze.
