Suspect in W.Va. sheriff slaying to be arraigned
WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (AP) — A man accused of fatally shooting Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum is set to make his first court appearance.
The Mingo County prosecuting attorney's office says 37-year-old Tennis Melvin Maynard will be arraigned in Cabell County on Wednesday.
Maynard was indicted last month on charges related to Crum's April 3 slaying. He's charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and fleeing authorities.
Maynard had been hospitalized since the shooting. He was shot by a deputy following a short chase after the shooting. The attempted murder charge stems from that incident, in which he was accused of pulling a gun on the deputy.
Investigators have not discussed a possible motive.
