City cracking down on residents who leave yard waste in street

Nov. 01, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON — The city of Huntington is cracking down on residents who blow or sweep grass clippings or leaves into the street.

The city prohibits residents from leaving their yard waste in the street because it clogs storm drains and catch basins and can lead to flooding, according to a prepared release. An existing city ordinance allows code inspectors to fine violators up to $500 per day per incident.

Leaves and grass clippings must be bagged and set next to the curb for pick up, according to the prepared release. The city offers a free pick-up service by calling 304-696-4484.
