Berea hotel goes green

March 14, 2010 @ 12:45 PM

BEREA, Ky. (AP) — A famed Kentucky hotel has become the first in the state to be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Berea’s Boone Tavern announced last week it had earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification following an $11.3 million renovation last spring.

The 101-year-old hotel and restaurant, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, updated its insulation, lighting, heating, cooling, and cooking systems in the renovation.

The Richmond Register reports that the upgrades have resulted in reduced energy costs for the building.
