Charity dog show scheduled for Oct. 9
HUNTINGTON -- A charity dog show to benefit the Lewy Body Dementia Association will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Pullman Square in Huntington. All breeds are welcome, including pedigree, non-pedigree and mixed breed family pets.
Lewy Body Dementia encompasses both Parkinson's Disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies, abnormal protein deposits that disrupt the brain's normal functioning. It is named for Friederich H. Lewy, the scientist who discovered the abnormal deposits.
Dog show judging will be based on control on the leash, obedience to commands and grooming. Dog classes will be divided into sporting dogs, terrier, hounds, working, non-sporting, toy, herding and mixed breeds. The final eight group winners will compete for best in show. Awards will be given in each class, with a $200 grand prize for best in show.
The entry fee of $10 and checks should be made payable to LBDA and sent to Kelly Shivel, Sarah Care Day Center, 2 Courtyard Lane, Barboursville, W.Va., 25504, along with name and breed/class of the dog; name of the owner; address; and telephone number.
