Events to support United Way

September 09, 2010 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- This week, there are several ways to support United Way of the River Cities and the community.

Football fans can support the organization's work by purchasing a parking pass for the Marshall-WVU football game Friday night in a premium reserved parking space in the ACF lot on 3rd Avenue. Single game parking passes and a season parking pass are also available. Tailgating is not permitted on this lot.

The Financial Stability Partnership of the River Cities, a United Way initiative, began recruitment for the upcoming tax season for VITA tax preparation sites. No tax preparation is necessary. IRS certification and training will be provided to all volunteers free of charge. Those interested in volunteering for the 2011 tax season should call 304-523-8929 or e-mail ed.davis@unitedwayrivercities.org.

From Thursday, Sept. 9, through Sunday, Sept. 12, local merchants will join together for the first-ever "Out on the Town with United Way" event, donating a portion of their sales to United Way. Participating merchants include Huntington Prime, Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio and Wigs, Mug & Pia, Sarka/Kauffmann Jewelers, The Old Village Roaster, Simply Whisk, Wright's and www.mythirtyone.com/shopwithme.
