Snow today; school closings, delays

HUNTINGTON — Overnight snow has led to a number of school closings and delays.

In West Virginia, Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, Putnam and Wayne counties are closed, along with Covenant School, Grace Christian School, St. Joseph Elementary and Our Lady of Fatima.

In Ohio, Chesapeake and Fairland are closed, along with Dawson Bryant, Ironton City and Catholic Schools, Lawrence County Open Door, Rock Hill and Symmes Valley.

In Kentucky, Ashland, Rose Hill, Boyd County, Fairview and Lawrence County are closed, along with Greenup County, Raceland and Russell.

Collins Career Center and Mountwest Community and Technical College are closed, while day classes were canceled at Huntington Junior College.

In Huntington, city officials reported household garbage service was delayed until 11:30 a.m. Thursday. They added all five salt trucks running with plows Thursday morning, but roads were still in poor condition. Dump trucks also were deployed to spread cinders.

Snow is likely this morning along with cloudy skies gradually becoming mostly sunny. The high will near 36 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 26.

Friday will bring rain and snow along with a high near 39. Little or no snow accumulation is expected. Friday night will see more snow, breezy conditions and a low around 20.

Saturday will see a slight chance of snow, partly sunny skies and a high near 31. Saturday night will see a chance of snow, cloudy skies and a low around 23.
