ORIGIN: Founded in 1842 as Trout's Hill in honor of its first settler, Abraham Trout. Incorporated as Fairview in 1882 by Circuit Court, but changed to Wayne in 1911. Named for Revolutionary War Gen. Anthony Wayne.
POPULATION: 1,121 (according to 2008 Census estimates).
