DISCOVER BARBOURSVILLE

June 05, 2011 @ 12:00 AM

Known as "the best little village in West Virginia," the Village of Barboursville offers a quaint downtown area with a strong sense of community, yet is also home to the state's largest indoor shopping center -- the Huntington Mall.

You could say its crowning jewel is Barboursville Community Park. Although funded by the municipality, it offers amenities often seen at larger state parks, such as hiking and mountain biking trails, athletics fields and courts, fishing lakes and ponds, picnic areas, an amphitheater, horse show ring, an archery range and playgrounds.
But that's not all there is to this hidden gem. Turn the page to discover Barboursville.

This is the first in a series of sections that will help The Herald-Dispatch readers get to know the communities that make up the Tri-State. Still to come: Milton, W.Va., on Sunday, June 12; Huntington on Sunday, June 19; Lawrence County, Ohio, on Sunday, June 26; Wayne County, W.Va., on Sunday, July 3; Putnam County, W.Va., on Sunday, July 10, and Mason County, W.Va., and Gallia County, Ohio, on Sunday, July 17.
