Barboursville Community Park: This park is located in the village of Barboursville, located off of U.S. 60 and near the Huntington Mall. The park spreads over 900 acres with a wealth of activities and amenities. There’s an extensive system of hiking and mountain biking trails, soccer fields, three baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, little league baseball fields, midget football field, fishing lakes and ponds, picnic areas, an amphitheater, horse show ring, an archery range, and several playgrounds suitable for a variety of ages. The Barboursville Park features nine shelters that are available for reservation for special events. There are five large shelters with the capacity of 150 people. The rental price for the large shelters are Saturday through Sunday $100 and Monday through Friday at $50. The smaller shelters with the capacity of 60 people are $50 Saturday through Sunday and $25 Monday through Friday. Each shelter has at least one barbecue grill. Beech Fork State Park: The closest state park to Huntington is only about 12 miles away. Take Hal Greer until it runs into W.Va. 10, take that road south, turn onto Hughes Branch Road and follow the signs. This 3,144 acre park features the state’s largest campground. The park is stocked with activities that include boating, swimming (in an Olympic size swimming pool), and an extensive trail system for hiking.
