Blenko Glass: Located at Blenko Glass Company off of James River Turnpike in Milton. Historic museum on second floor of the Visitors Center features extensive stained glass display, history of the family-owned glass company, Country Music Award and U.S. Capitol lighting globe on display. Tours also available. Admission is free. Hours are: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 304-743-9081.
Mountaineer Opry House: Located a stone's throw off of Milton Exit 28, the red-block building known as The Mountaineer Opry House, has been hosting national-act bluegrass most Saturday nights during most of the year. Everyone from the late, great Bill Monroe "The Father of Bluegrass Music," to Grammy Award-winning artist Alison Krauss has played The Opry House, a smoke-and-alcohol-free, all-ages venue. Concessions (hot dogs, BBQ's, soft drinks, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh popcorn, chips and candy) are available. Tickets can be bought the day of show. Tickets usual go on sale at 5 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. show times. Ticket prices are generally $12, $10 for seniors and $5 for children 12 and under. Prices can vary depending on the band. West Virginia Pumpkin Park: The park hosts two major events each year, the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival and the Cabell County Fair. The board of the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival, Inc., the park's owners, is hoping to expand the park's use beyond those two activities. April Dawn Park: Located at 855 Mason St., Milton, April Dawn Park offers a free spray ground during warmer months, along with a playground, open play space, grills, electrical outlets, parking, and picnic shelter with rest rooms. The large, attractive, well-covered picnic shelter seats 60 people at 9 tables. It has two grills, and two electrical outlets. Hours are 8 a.m. until dark. The shelter may be reserved for $45 per day, Monday through Thursday, and $70 on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. To make reservations, call 304-696-5954.
Fox Fire Resort: Fox Fire, at 660 Fox Fire Road, Milton, offers RV camping at its best (but spots fill up fast!) as well as a variety of day-use activities. The 45-acre resort has public picnicking, fishing, waterslide, spray ground, swimming pools, jacuzzi, paddle boats, kayaks, putt golf, tennis, basketball and volleyball. The resort has been in operation since in 1978. Fox Fire also offers hot air balloon rides and is a great place for company picnics and parties, reunions, church socials and other catered affairs. Resort is closed on Mondays and Tuesday (except holidays). Resort gates open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission cost per person is $10.37 Wednesday - Friday (half price after 3 p.m.) and $12.73 Saturday and Sunday (half price after 5 p.m.). The weekday group rate for 25 or more is $8.49 each. KNIGHT TIME MUSIC: 109 Main St., 304-743-5100. This music shop offers sound systems, karaoke machines and records for businesses, DJs and private homes.
HALFWAY MARKET: Located along U.S. 60, adjacent to the Milton Flea Market. It offers a variety of produce, plants and Amish foods.
MILTON FLEA MARKET: 1215 U.S. 60, 304-743-1123. Offers a variety of goods from glass and leather to music and clothing and much more. Dozens of vendors set up at this massive, permanent flea market, much of which was rebuilt following a devastating fire in 2008.
