MU Recreation Center hosting fitness classes

HUNTINGTON -- The Marshall University Recreation Center is hosting a number of fitness classes this fall, available students, members and non members. Those interested can try the first class for free.

Classes include:

C.U.T. (cross training in under 30 minutes): A high-intensity class that combined volume power lifting and complex body weight movement. 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Sept. 4-28; Oct. 2-30; Nov. 1-30; Dec. 4-28. $30 for members, $50 for non members.

C.U.T. also is being offered from 5:15-5:45 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, Sept. 5-26; Oct. 1-31; Nov. 5-28; Dec. 3-26. $20 for members and $35 for non members. 5:15-5:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 4-27; Oct. 2-30; Nov. 1-29; Dec. 4-27. $20 for members and $35 for non members. 12:15-12:45 Monday through Friday, Sept. 4-28; Oct. 1-31; Nov. 1-30; Dec. 3-31. $50 for members and $85 for non members.

Tabata Boot Camp: The workout includes three 30-minute sessions each week (upper body, lower body and core), two six-minute microburst at-home workouts and nutritional education. 6-7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 10 to Oct. 18; Oct. 22 to Nov. 29. $54 for members and $89 for non members.

Tough Mudder Prep: A high-intensity class based on functional strength, metabolic conditioning, stamina and mental toughness that are part of tough mudder competitions. The program is designed to help propel participants into top physical condition with an array of physical challenges within the free weight area, pool, turf field and more. 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 to Oct. 9 and Oct. 16 to Nov. 13; 5-6 p.m. Thursday; Sept. 13 to Oct. 11 and Oct. 18 to Nov. 15. $20 for members and $32 for non members.

Intro to Yoga: A slow-paced class for beginners or anyone wanting to learn the basic postures of Hatha Yoga. Noon to 1 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, Aug. 27 to Oct. 17 and Oct. 22 to Dec. 10; 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 to Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 to Dec. 11. $16 for members and $32 for non members.

Yoga Flow: Increases flexibility by focusing on individual yogic postures. Participants will work on both postures and breath work to achieve strength and balance, reduce stress and tone the body. Beginners and all levels are welcome. 5:15-6:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2 to Oct. 21 and Oct. 28 to Dec. 16. Free for members and $58 for non members.

Spin-45: Indoor cycling that includes endurance, strength and interval training. Experience a variety of situations in this 45-minute long session that includes hill climbs, fast flats and exhilarating finishes. 6:15-7 a.m. Wednesday and Friday, Aug. 29 to Oct. 19 and Oct. 24 to Dec. 14. Free for members and $39 for non members.

The Extra Mile 5K: A seven-week training class to help participants get conditioned to run their first 5K or improve times for seasoned runners. 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 to Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 to Dec. 11. $39 for members and $49 for non members.

Aerobic Fitness: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 23 to Dec. 13. $40 for members and $65 for non members.

Total Body Conditioning: 8-9 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 28 to Oct. 18 and Oct. 23 to Dec. 13. $40 for members and $65 for non members.

Women's Workout: This class is designed to meet the fitness needs of the mature woman. The Instructor will provide strength, cardiovascular, balance and flexibility training. Participants will improve function for activities of daily living and target trouble spots with women's bodies. 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, to Oct. 24 and Oct. 31 to Dec. 5. $24 for members and $48 for non members.

Egyptian Bellydance: Learn basic technique, isolations, turns, choreography and traditional dances of the Middle East. The Instructor has had the honor of performing with the world famous Bellydance Superstars and will appear in the second season of the reality TV show, Project Bellydance, that will air this fall. 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 to Oct. 9 and Oct. 16 to Nov. 20. $24 for members and $48 for non members.

Back to School Basic Training: Start back easy and progress weekly with circuit style fitness, including strength and cardio. 5-6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 to Oct. 29. $32 for members and $64 for non members.

Boxing Body Beatdown: A fast-paced cardio class designed to work total body and deliver an intense workout. This class will revolve around the conditioning fundamentals observed in boxing and kickboxing including; heavy bag, jump rope, running, plyometrics, speed ropes, etc. 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 to Oct. 3 and Oct. 10 to Nov. 7. $19 for members and $39 for non members.

Zumba: 6-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27 to Oct. 15 and Oct. 22 to Dec. 10; 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 to Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 to Dec. 11; 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 to Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 to Dec. 12; and 7:15-8:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 to Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 to Dec. 13. Cost is $8 for members and $24 for non members.

Yoga for Runners and Athletes: A class designed for cross-training the fitness/sports enthusiast. This class will aid in increasing endurance and flexibility and building core power and strength. 7-8 p.m. each Monday. $8 for members and $12 for non members, per class.
