Atlanta alumni treated well
The Marshall University Atlanta Alumni Club had a contingent attend the Marshall at Southern Miss football game. The group enjoyed the trip and sent the following letter to Southern Miss President Dr. Aubrey K. Lucas and Hattiesburg, Miss., Mayor Dr. Johnny L. DuPree.
What is the definition of hospitality? Webster tells us hospitable (given to generous and cordial reception of guests) treatment, reception or disposition. Ask any one of the 57 Marshall University Atlanta Alumni Club travelers who participated in the recent Southern Miss Weekender, and the answer would be the people of Southern Miss and Hattiesburg.
Traveling by the Amtrak Crescent from Atlanta to Hattiesburg Hampton Inn, the Marshall Atlanta Alumni Club had another great time on your campus and in your town. And just like two years ago when 41 of us made the trip, we received extraordinary hospitality from everyone we met and worked with.
Some people who really stand out are Jennifer Hatten in the USM Department of Parking Management, Vincent Nelms of Hub City Transit, the staff at Canebrake Country Club, Hattiesburg CPA Baron Thames who picked two of our "We Are Marshall"-attired travelers up as they walked toward the USM campus and especially Hampton Inn General Manager Frank James and his staff. While we were traveling and it was clear The Crescent would be late and that our around-Hattiesburg rental van transportation plan had fallen through, Frank went above and beyond normal expectations and came up with a solution.
The Marshall Atlanta Alumni Club travels well in support of Thundering Herd Athletics. After two great Weekender experiences, Southern Miss/Hattiesburg is clearly our favorite destination. We will be back in 2014!
We invite Southern Miss alumni, friends and fans and the good citizens of Hattiesburg to visit Marshall and Huntington where we promise to reciprocate with equally great Thundering Herd and River City hospitality.
